About Me

profile_bwHello. Welcome to my blog. As you’ve no doubt noticed, it is about a subject very dear to me: Music. From an early age I have been enraptured with music. As a child I would often sit with the portable record player,  listening to the handful of children’s albums we had for hours on end. I would sing into a cheap getto-blaster through a cheaper microphone, recording onto tape such ditties as: You Are My Sunshine, and Down By the Bay.

Music is my passion. It is a passion that was thankfully noticed and fed by my parents. I have been playing one instrument or another since I was five. My father, with his gargantuan library of records and tapes made sure that I my education was well rounded.

As a parent now, I see my own son’s joy in singing and being allowed to play with the ‘tars, as he calls them. I look forward to teaching him to play. I can’t wait  to share with him the fine world of music that is about us, just as I share the world of music with you, dear reader.

This blog may seem to jump around a bit. Sometimes I’ll discourse on music theory, sometimes I’ll point out cool things people are doing in the music world. I do have some consistent interests that will keep coming up. Hand-in-hand with my love of music, is my lust for technology. I don’t mean just high-tech, but low-tech as well.  Whether it be a complex melding of circuits and software, or carved wood and catgut strings; the physical means by which music is produced is a subject that tickles my fancy. Just as important are the new things that people do to advance the art and science of music.

With a subject so vast, intricate, and changing I doubt I’ll run out of topics to post on.  I hope that you will enjoy exploring music as much as I do, and that this blog will serve as good travel guide.

Sincerely,

Stephen Perraton
